We have had no difficulty changing diacritics with Global Update. You
do have to use the numbers in curly braces. For example, finding {226}
and replacing it with {225} will change an acute accent to a grave. I
sometimes have to look at the records in telnet first to see exactly how
the diacritics are stored.

Thanks for the confirmation. We had hit on the cut-and-paste method, but
it is at least comforting that we aren't the only ones who can't enter
diacritics in global update.
