Two options come to mind:
- Make a script (e.g. AutoIt) to bounce back and forth between Excel and
Millennium to update records one by one, or alternately have the script do
the transform directly on a review file record by record
- Export in .mrc format, edit in e.g. MarcEdit, and send them back in .mrc
format. You'd need a load table rigged to overlay based on record number in
your specific example, or any other unique field you have (often OCLC
number)

Subject: [IUG] off-system manipulation and return of data
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to export data from Millennium,
manipulate it another application and then import it back into Millennium so
that the new data overwrites the old?
For example, I would like to:
1. gather a set of item records, export the following fields:
(i) record number
(i) call number
(b) author
2. import the data into another app (i.e. MS Access or mysql)
3. use the app to derive new call numbers by concatenating: a) the current
call number & b) a cuttered version of the related author name
4. put the data back in Millennium:
item record number = item record number (matchpoint) new call number
(derived off system) >> replaces call number currently on system
I know that the first three steps are possible; it's the fourth that I'm
uncertain of. I don't believe that what I would like to do is possible
through Global Update, which is why I'm asking about this method. If it is,
I'd certainly like to know how to go about doing it.
Thanks,
