I don't know if anyone wants to read one more message on this topics,
but here's a few more cents' worth!

Carol said she got an AWS (Amazon Web Services) account. I don't know
how this is different from an Amazon Associates account, but the
"Operating Agreement" for the latter program
(http://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/agreement) details a
number of things you can and can't do. 

One of the things you can do is display image links: 'You may select one
or more Products to list on your site using a variety of formats that we
make available to you, such as text link format, graphical link format,
customizable "widget" format, or "product preview" link format.'
