Hi,
It sounds like maybe you'd be better off with Bib holds rather than Item
holds. If 2 folks want one item, obviously there's only one person who
can have that item, so it will only page once. But if there are
multiple items on the Bib, and any one will do, then there really isn't
any reason to be paging particular items. The Bib paging just asks for
the next available item. There's more to it than that quick
description, but if that sounds possible, the next step it to examine
how you're set up and if you have the Bib paging option.
Thanks,

Subject: [IUG] Question About Requests That Create Multiple Holds for an
Item
July 18, 2007
Folks,
I am trying to figure out an issue we are having with our Request
feature.
Everything works, but it seems that when more than one person requests
the
same item attached to a bibliographic record in our Web OPAC, the second
person requesting the item does not send a paging slip to the holding
library. The second (third, fourth, etc.) request does, however,
register
on the list of outstanding holds as well as display in the Web OPAC ("3
HOLDS"), but only the first request produces a paging slip.
I was under the impression that even if multiple patrons request a
particular item, a paging slip should still be sent for all requests;
not
just the first. If not, then it kinda' defeats the purpose of requests
and the paging slips.
Our request rules are pretty simple: ALL items are requestable. ANYONE
can
request any item.
What am I missing?
Thanks!
