Well, if I understand barcodes right, it all depends on the type of barcode
you're using - for example, here we have some variant of Code 39 - what are
you using?

Subject: [IUG] Barcode algorithm?
We are about to embark on loading patron records into our system. As part
of that I need to generate valid patron barcodes in Excel or some other
spreadsheet or database.
Does anyone have a handy-dandy algorithm for generating the checksum I could
plop into a spreadsheet of sequentially generated patron numbers?
Thanks,
Dan Taysom
