Bibdisplay governs the layout of the full record view in the same way that briefcit governs the layout of the brief citation (hit list) view. Webpub.def is another animal entirely.

You actually can use all of these files in prepro versions if you want (if you don't the layouts are system generated), but with webpac pro you must use all of these files. You'll get default versions of all of these files when you upgrade to pro and can accepts the default settings, or you can customize them to your liking.

I hope that helps.

I'm getting a little confused by the terminology. Is bibdisplay.html
the webpacPro equivalent of webpub.def, or a separate file that
interacts with it? If bibdisplay.html replaces webpub.def, are you
saying that the webpubdef=true WWWoption still controls?

Like everybody, we got a baseline webpub.def file with Rel. 2006, but I
ended up suppressing it (changed the name) because it was negating the
settings in my ASAA long label names file, which themselves override
settings in my MARC label names file, and there seemed no
quick-and-dirty way to resolve the discrepancies.

Can someone who's' implemented webpac Pro after investing energy in
label names through ASAA comment on how the settings interact and how
you survived the transition?

Also ensure you have this wwwoption set:

WEBPUBDEF=true

If you're using webpac pro and the bibdisplay.html file there are some
other considerations you need to look into.

Subject: [IUG] Webpub.def question

We're nearly done with a major redesign of our library website,
including our webpac. I finally got the webpub.def file in the staging
directory to do what I want, so I copied it to the live directory. Silly
me, I thought it would behave the same! For some reason, it isn't.
There's a whole bunch of MARC codes displaying (looks like the 008
field) just after our holdings box. (We use b|H|||||b.)

Any clues on why it works in staging but not live???

Thanks, Frustrated in DC
