I would also add checking of some authorized functions. The authorization
logins ("initials") need some reorganization, too. (Like adding "Save
Settings Millennium", or "View/Create/Edit Templates"). The authorizastions
would retain most of the funcionality, but some necessary changes have to be
done. Pre-setting up logins would be a good idea, too - it's only a few
minutes for one, but multiplied by 100 gives a lot of job. (I know, because
recently I had to create and set up over 180 Millennium logins). A lot of
things depends in Millennium on login settings, preferences and manager
controlled options - remember that and personalize Millennium logins as soon
as you can - it would really save some nerves - yours and your staff.
Prepare the tutorial for self-customization of the modules - a lot of things
the users can do by themselves, but expect up to five minutes you'll have to
spend over each login to set up the things only you can. If you plan
implement Release 2006 or higher keep in mind that you loose Aquisition and
Serials modules from character based system. Also check up for any keyword
shortcuts - like fast scrolling of records etc. - your staff will keep
asking that. Use extended abilities of templates - that's a big help and can
be thought over beforehand. Don't expect to have everything in Millennium -
some things (like printing whole review file) can be still done only via
character based version. To prevent complaining find as much things that you
can do in Millennium and can't in character based system as you can and show
them to the staff. (Like adding single records to review files by searching
for them, not by setting up a Boolean search or working with more than one
record at once). That's all that comes to my mind after doing exactly the
same in September and October last year. (About 250 staff involved, more or
less, in working with ILS).

Subject: [IUG] Millenium Modules
Sinclair is going to be adding the remaining Millennium modules the end of
the month-- cataloging, acquisitions, and serials. Anyone have some advice
on things you wished you had done beforehand or right after? Any sage
advice about the changeover?
Thanks for you help!
