[IUG] adding additional location code
[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]
We are trying to improve access to the collection of Document internet records we have in our catalog. We subscribe to Marcive for our Government Document records. The records are loaded into the catalog and have the bibliographic location of Documents. The item locations specify what type of material or subset of documents it is, Docs Fiche, Docs Internet, Documents, etc.
Our problem is when a patron is looking specifically for an internet resource, the limits are based upon bibliographic location. We have a large collection of Internet resources that are NOT government documents with the location of Internet. So limiting by Internet will retrieve those records in the general Internet collection, but eliminates all of the Docs Internet titles.
The Documents Librarian would like patrons to be able to retrieve both by the Limit of Gov. Documents, and by Internet. In order to do this, the simplist solution would be simply to add the bibliographic location code for Internet to the Docs Internet records after they come in.
I have over 20,000 records already in the database I would like to change from Documents to multi: Documents and Internet. I have these in a list, but I cannot find a way in Global or Rapid to ADD a location code, only CHANGE it. Does anyone know of a way to add a location code to a bib record, thereby changing it to multi with the existing codes and the new one? I'd rather not do this one at a time.
I would appreciate any help in this matter.
Thanks,
Paula Coulthard
