Hi Kim,

After much discussion, we turned on the ability for patrons to opt-in to maintain their reading history. My patrons love it and there have been no recent expressions of concern about confidentiality. When we first offerred the reading history, some patrons and staff were concerned on behalf those who opted in, but after a few weeks that subsided and the reading history appears to be a success. Staff compiles reading histories on their departmental library cards to generate lists for book discussions, weeding and other ingenious uses. There were no complications as a result of turning it on and no impact on speed of transactions.

What experiences have other libraries, particularly public libraries,
had with using the Reading History option? Has the public been
enthusiastic about it? Were there any technical problems?
TIA
