Don,

I've started a list of edits I am making as we go through the redesign
with an idea of presenting a session on "editing the Pro style sheets"
at this fall's NWIUG conference. I don't think I'm necessarily catching
errors where things aren't up to "best code" but I am catching typos
like "exmaple" instead of "example" on the help_index3.html page and the
"seperate" and "borwser" in a comment line on styles.css and
ie_styles.css.

I also find it annoying that the coding isn't consistent for how it
handles the little "other searches" box. It is consistently the same
terms on all the main tab searches but behaves differently when you
choose one of the "other searches". Sometimes it swaps labels from the
main tabs to the "other searches" label that was chosen and sometimes it
doesn't. BBSU and we have chosen to keep it consistent on every page
thinking that students won't really read what is there, they will just
get used to clicking on the second one to do an author/title search etc.
Looking at the new site they announced on the list today it looks like
Bury has chosen to consistently swap the label out.

Ed,

You are absolutely right. But in most cases you can get around the
junk. We have been able to do that except problems on the serial
checkin boxes page. I think we have to live with that for now until
Innovative can improve the code generating scheme.

The discussion about style sheet: we have been able to just use one
stylesheet to accommodate all browsers [different versions of IE, ff,
opera, etc] and do away with most image files. We use the stylesheet to
format the links into button like navigation, saving time and gaining
flexibility in different browsers. But do not look for it on our site.
We will probably launch the redesigned one in March during our spring
break.

I have an suggestion: can we get a group together and collect all the
junk codes in different pages and compile those errors? It is too much
for one person, but it probably will not be too big for a community like
ours here. Any takers?

I have my doubts about putting the Innovative web opac into standards
mode in any browser, though, because there are so many html coding
errors that are coming from Innovative source code that we can't do
anything about. I did it for GVPL's catalogue, following innovative's
recommendations, but I'm not sure it was a good decision given the awful

amount of invalid code.

I was hoping I could go through the files and fix the errors but quickly

found out that this was a task too big for me to tackle in the time
available, even if I had access to all the code.
