Hi,
C/W MARS libraries also use View Holds to identify problem holds and to
make sure patrons' holds are being filled. It is a helpful tool to
identify titles with many holds and sometimes for identifying patrons
with multiple holds on the same title.
We have requested enhancements for View Holds. We would like the
ability to modify, transfer, or cancel the hold from View Holds. We
would like to be able to download the data to a spreadsheet.

We ask our libraries to look at View Holds at least weekly, more often
if
they have long holds lists.
We use it to look for "stuck" holds - something that has an available
status
that has a request date of more than a week ago. This indicates a
breakdown
somewhere; either a paging slip wasn't generated, it was lost, the item
itself is missing and the hold wasn't transferred, or any other number
of
possible problems. So for good patron service we track these down and
get
them moving again so the patron can receive their item.
We also use it to see if more copies of something should be ordered. We
have a recommendation that if more than 5 of a library's patrons are
waiting
for the same item another copy should be purchased. Now that all the
columns in the View Holds report are sortable it's an easy thing to do.
(Purchase alerts are totally useless in a consortium environment.)
