RE: [IUG] Lengthy enhanced 505 indexing

I can't help with why but I just examined our catalog and I see we are
having the same problem. I ran a list of all records with 505 00 and
examining about 2000 of the 12000+ I found three. Using MS Word to check
character counts there doesn't seem to be a consistency; neither does
there seem to be a consistency in title count.

"The future history of economics" (OCLC # 51971464) has 2330 characters,
2746 with spaces. Without the last three titles it is dropping it is
2093 characters, 2468 with spaces. It is indexing 23 of the 26 titles.

"A companion to the history of economic thought" (OCLC # 7967126) has
2699 characters, 3096 with spaces. Without the non-indexed titles it has
2354 characters, 2697 with spaces. It is indexing 38 of the 43 titles.

"Autism spectrum disorders" (OCLC # 42680515) has 1478 characters, 1699
with spaces. Without the last title it has 1381 characters, 1586 with
spaces. It is indexing 13 of 14 titles.

It seems to be more than an issue of how many titles or characters.
Before I hit send on the above message I decided to check every title in
the 505 of "Companion to the history of economic thought". I found a
whole chunk of titles in the middle that also aren't showing. Within
that chunk there is one title that can be retrieved so it isn't even
skipping entire sections.

I had originally checked entries in my create list by checking the last
title in the 505. If it was retrieved I went to the next. But it looks
like a deeper analysis is needed.

Subject: [IUG] Lengthy enhanced 505 indexing

We have recently discovered that |t entries towards the end of a very
lengthy enhanced 505 field are not indexing in the title index. The
contents of the entire field display in the OPAC and are in the keyword
index. Is there a place in the manual that indicates how many |t entries
will be indexed? I checked the manual and only found that note fields
have a maximum length of 10,000 characters.

Thanks for your help,
