RE: [IUG] Eligib to Recall Question

Hi Rebecca,
As I understand it, the minimum use parameter is what defines how long
the patron is guaranteed with an item -- so a minimum use of 14 will
guarantee that even if recalled, the patron will get 14 days use from
the time the item was checked out. The eligible to recall parameter
determines how close to the due date an item can be recalled. If all
you want to do is guarantee the first patron a certain amount of time to
use the item, you can leave this set to 0. That way the item can be
recalled at any time, but the system will set a due date that maintains
the 14 days defined as minimum use. I believe if you put a value of 28
in the eligible to recall field, it would result in no recalls allowed
at all.
I don't think there's a way to allow recalls only after a certain amount
of time has passed since checkout.
Feel free to contact me directly if you need more info.
Thanks,
Sarah

Subject: [IUG] Eligib to Recall Question
Hello Everyone,
One of our circulation policies allows for faculty and staff to have an
item for four weeks, subject to recall after two weeks. I am finalizing
our loan rules and testing, and I'm having a bit of trouble wrapping my
brain around this one. In the Minimum Use field for the loan rule, I
have 14 days. We want to allow the patron to be able to use the item for
a minimum of 14 days. For the Eligib to Recall, I also have 14 days.
Will that mean that once there are fewer then 14 days left in the loan
period, it will no longer offer an option to recall?
So essentially, it will make the item unavailable for recalls during the
last two weeks of circulation? Is there a way to not allow recalls
during the first two weeks of checkout, rather than last two weeks? Or
would I just put 28 days (the full loan period) in the Eligib to Recall
and the Minimum Use would be the element that ensure our patron keeps
the book for at least the first two weeks of their checkout period. I
hope that makes sense. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
