[IUG] Thinking of linux
[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]
We're one of those sites that have been caught with an AlphaServer which
can't
be upgraded to 2007 because of the Java problem. So, we're considering
alternatives
and linux/red hat is one of those.
In the documentation on the csidirect web site, only HP, IBM and Sun are
listed
as acceptable hardware platforms, yet I've seen some mention in the list
archives
of other hardware running linux being utilised. Have I misunderstood?
If we
decided on linux, would we be required to run it on one of the
"accepted" hardware
platforms, or would we be free to run it on any that we chose? Is there
documentation
on this somewhere?
Linux would be a good choice for us, as we have local expertise and the
price is
right. However, if we had to purchase expensive hardware to run it on,
it would
negate a lot of the cost savings.
Cheers,
