We use a 4100n (the Gates foundation laser printer), before that we used
the old 5n. I can also print to our Xerox color Phaser, and our Canon
copier.

We've completely automated the process of printing the notices, so
they're printing directly from unix and show up in the printer every
morning without staff intervention. Before that we printed them
manually from the millenium client...both as a III system printer and a
local printer installed(networked printer). The models we have
successfully printed to in all situations were the HP4350, 4101, 2200,
and 2100.

I believe the client uses "standard printer" for the notices.

Has anyone printed circ notices (overdues, etc.) to a laser printer
other than the recommended (on manual page # 101133) HP LaserJet 4250N,
especially a lower-model printer like maybe a LaserJet 1022 that's
connected to a JetDirect box, or perhaps something completely different
like a Toshiba copier? Currently we print about 150-200 notices a week
(actually bills; we don't print overdues at all) on our old Okidata
printer but we need to replace it. I like the idea of switching to
plain paper on a laser printer (we already have a machine to fold the
printouts), but I'm balking at spending $1,300 (for a LaserJet 4250N)
for such a small amount of printing.

Also, it looks like I can print circ. notices from Millennium (by
choosing the right the "form printer") to a printer that's set up as a
network printer on the III server or to a printer that's set up as a
local printer on the PC--is that right? (We print in a round-about way
from the character-based system right now.)

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Phil
