- Subject: RE: [IUG] Non-reservable Holds Issue
We don't allow holds on any of our Law items, but we do allow staff to
page these items for patrons who are at a different campus (essentially
a hold). These items must have a SHELF status.
The process is that the staff at the requesting location confirms the
SHELF status of an item, then places a hold on an item. Our loan rules
for these items allow holds, but not recalls, and our Request Rules do
not allow patron initiated holds through the library catalog. Recently,
we discovered that the defined pickup time was insufficient and staff
members were manually keeping track of when the items were to be removed
from the holdshelf, so we changed the value in the "Time to Pickup"
field and now these items follow the same rules as other items on
Hold/Recall.
BTW, we do require the proper authorizations to place and change holds
and recalls.

Barbara,
We have the exact same problem here with a number of non-reservable
materials and essentially, it is a staff-training issue. If you wanted
to really get strict with your authorizations, you could limit certain
individuals the ability to override hold blocks, but that may be more
trouble than its worth - which is what we concluded. If you find a
different solution, I would like to hear it!
Hope you have a Happy New Year!

Subject: [IUG] Non-reservable Holds Issue
Hello,
We are on release 2006, 1.0.
We have some item types and a loan rule set up so that they are
"non-holdable" by any patron type. For example, patrons cannot place
holds on our magazines. However, when a staff member begins to place a
hold on one of these titles, an error message pops up telling us that
this title is "not reservable" with an Override option. The staff
member is able to override with no authorization needed, but the paging
option screen does not display.
The title does not show up on any paging list, but a bib-level hold is
listed for that title. The hold displays also on the patron's record.
What can we do so that the Override option does not appear for
Non-reservable titles? Is this a staff education issue? Is this a
password authorization issue? Thanks for any help you can give us.
