Hey David --

The email posting that came across to me did not have an example of what
you are seeing. I think that the IUG discussion list strips images and
reformats the emails as text only. So feel welcome to write me off-list
directly with a copy and I am happy to take a look at it.

Without seeing your example, I do know that the most often asked
question from my staff has to do with delimiters. I use the pipe which
is [shift] \ because it is a commonly used delimiter in other
places, and it is rarely (never) confused with a character that actually
means something. Getting the delimiter to work predictably goes a long
way to getting an export to Excel to format properly.

One other common formatting problem we see here is when staff overlook
the fact that the barcode field/column needs to be set to text when
opening the file in the wizard in Excel. Otherwise, we get 34503+9 or
something equally meaningless.

Happy exporting and Merry Christmas,

Paul

Subject: [IUG] A truly "dumb question," but ...

Greetings.

When I wish to download a report from the INNOPAC Millennium statistics,
I find myself unable to do so in a way that allows for a decent Excel
file.

Being pretty techno dumb, what I get looks like this:

Please, any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong and what I can do
right? ("HELP" has not been much help)

Thank you.

Subject: Re: [IUG] Transfer of holds

Beth, part of the confusion depends on what type of Paging you have set
up on your system.

If you are using Item Level Paging, the transfer time calculates based
on the time the paging slip is printed by staff.

If you are on Title Level Paging, the transfer time calculates according
to the time the hold is first paged which is usually the time the
request is placed.

The transfer process in either case is set up as a cron job and will run
at the same time every day on your system and uses the circ option
setting for the time to transfer. So at 4:00 a.m., for example, it
would look at your

file to find those pages that have been in the file longer than the
number of hours you have set in the circ option and the transfer is
conducted at that time. Pages that have not been in the file long
enough according to your set time remain in the file until the next day
when the process runs again and

checks to see how old the pages are and transfers again.

FYI- on our system when we were on Item Level Paging, we set that
transfer

time to 12 hours because it based on when the library printed the paging
slip. When we changed over to Title Level Paging so we could use the
new Priority Paging, we extended that transer period to 48 hours because
of differences in the way to two paging models function.

Feel free to contact me off list if you have any other specific
questions.
