RE: [IUG] (no subject)

It sounds to me you might sometimes be using an ILL form which has a
different ITYPE which is set to none circ. Pull up the patron record and
right click to view the virtual item. See which ITYPE it is using and
compare your records. They should both be the same itype if they are to
circulate.
The only way you can see the virtual items which the ILL module creates
is to start in ILL and look up the patron record. When we have an ILL
book for in-house use only we re-do the request on a different ILL form
which has only a checkout period of 2 hours. (Library staff are suppose
to check it out so we know the patron used the book).
We have not experienced books not checking out. You can not reuse
barcodes until you have deleted your ILL filled and cancelled database.
We have been up for 9 months with it and have not yet deleted barcodes,
so we are not reusing them. I'm surprised you can re-use them unless
you have deleted your ILL database.
The suggestion below won't work with the ILL module which kind of
defeats the purpose of using III ILL module.

Well, I'm Acquisitions not ILL, but here is what we do.
We make an on the fly ILL bib record, and attach an item record with
the barcode.
See below:
CALL # PQ4315.62 N5
AUTHOR DANTE
TITLE MONARCHY AND THREE POLITICAL LETTERS-ILL
That way we have an "official" record to check out to.

I am a reference librarian who has recently been given responsibility
for the ILL department (1 person who knows how to do her job but doesn't
really understand what the software is doing). Because I'm not an ILL
or circulation person, I might not use the right language to explain the
problem we are having.
We are able to check out some ILL books, but not others. We see no way
to distinguish the ones that work from the ones that don't (other than
trying to check them out).
Here's what we do.
When we receive a book from another library for one of our users, we
attach a barcoded strip of heavy paper to it so that we can check it
out. In the ILL module, we go to Pending Requests and scan the barcode.
The box that contains the barcode field has other fields which we leave
blank. An alert box pops up, telling us we have left fields blank and
asking us if we want to continue. We say yes.
I have witnessed this procedure twice.
The first time, we faked a request and checked it out to a staff
member. After the book was checked out, I tried to search the
circulation module for the barcode using the search/holds button. An
alert box pops up that says "Record selected is not valid for this
operation. Record type must be Bibliographic, Item.
The second time that I witnessed the procedure, the request was real.
The book is currently awaiting checkout, and the same thing happens when
I search for the barcode.
We currently have 4 books that were on our ILL shelf before I was
responsible for ILL. The same thing happens when I try to search for
these barcodes.
I have asked our cataloger if there is a way to determine any
information about this barcode, and she is aware of none. Perhaps this
isn't a problem, but I am worried because there is no way to determine
which barcoded strips of paper (which we reuse) are currently
(mistakenly) attached to items.
As I said, we were able to succesfully check out our fake request.
When I search for the person requesting the ILL, I find one request for
all 5 people (the previously existing 4 plus the one I witnessed). All
of the items have a "Ready for Pickup" status. However, I have been
told that all of the items that do not check out also have a "Ready for
Pickup" status.
Does anyone know what is going wrong? Also, is anyone else
experiencing the same problem? Thanks for any help you can provide.
