RE: [IUG] Linux Servers

We are running on Red Hat Linux & upgraded to 2006 this morning.
The upgrade process went well, except for the 3 functions that we had to
call Innovative about after the upgrade. Remember to check that the
connections for View Holds, Notices, and (if you use Electronic Resource
Management) the connection to the Coverage Database is working. After
we reported the problems, it took Innovative less than an hour to get
everything working so it wasn't a long outage.

We are a software only site. We migrated from a standalone server
running IBM AIX to a blade on a blade server running Red Hat Linux
earlier this year.

The preliminaries were what held us up: the blade center doesn't have a
tape drive, so the enterprise backup was a necessity.

We scheduled 2 days of downtime around the end of March for it. The
migration itself went relatively smoothly and within a couple of days
most
of the minor glitches we ran into were fixed and we've been working well
ever since.

A couple of months later, we upgraded to Release 2005 and are this week
planning on upgrading to Release 2006.
We're happy with how it's running and IT is happy saving money on the
OS.

Can any of you out there share your experiences with using Linux
servers? Will like to know the pros & cons.

Thanks,
Jonathan
