Hi Michael,
It is nice to hear from you. How long it took the update to 2006 from
2005? How long the system down during the update?
Thanks and have a great weekend!!!

Greetings,
Middlebury migrated from a DRA Classic system to a Linux box in August,
2005. There have been some Linux-related problems, but overall I would
say that the system runs just fine. Our upgrade to 2005 was
problematic, but 2006 went much more smoothly.
Despite these and other occasional glitches, I would recommend Linux.
And as more sites move to Linux I would expect things to improve.
A small group of us who run Linux keep in touch with each other and help
share expertise and laments! Any Linux sites that are not part of this
group are more than welcome to contact me off-list.

Jonathan,
I'm not the authority on Linux, but we did migrate to a Linux server in
March of this year.
Frankly, it went pretty badly. Our system was down for more than the
'one day' we told our customer base we were going to be down. So many
problems were reported of functionality being broken that we had various
checklists running for tracking all the calls we reported to Innovative.
While I can't actually blame the Linux migration, our duplicate headings
report using initials functionality is now broken and Innovative has
stated they won't fix it until the 2007 release!
We also had spooky instances where, weeks later, we were modifying loan
rule elements and other tables (like the branches table) and after
committing the changes, the entire table would have odd entries, which
we had to call Innovative to restore.
Overall, it was an experience our users disliked very much. So much so
that we're upgrading to 2006 next Monday and our users think we are
going to be down for days (again) like in March. I've had to explain to
them it's only a software conversion this time - not a hardware
conversion!

Can any of you out there share your experiences with using Linux
servers? Will like to know the pros & cons.
Thanks,
Jonathan
