RE: [IUG] Housekeeping in Create Lists
[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]
Good morning! We are a Public Library with 16 branch libraries. We have 160 lists and most of them are usually in use!!! We use Create Lists to run our individual Branch Paging Lists--18 all together-- (instead of using the Millennium generated Paging Lists ― we're waiting for greater freedom to cusomize the Millennium generated paging lists).
We name our lists, identifying their purpose, AND we put the word TEMPLATE in the name when we want to protect the list. Some staff have also "owned" lists when they need to always have an available list. Every so many days, I go in and EMPTY any lists that are a month (or more) old which are not "owned" and do not have the word TEMPLATE in them. I will also EMPTY any lists which have "UNNAMED" as the Title even if they are not a month old, but I do so only in the instance that we are running out of EMPTIES! About once per month, I send out an email to all staff asking that they EMPTY any lists (TEMPLATE, OWNED or not!) which they no longer need. Eventually, I would LOVE to get the special training to split the lists, since ours begin with 1,000 record size and we have a fair number of larger lists (the max size is currently 500,000 records--2 of these). Kind regards, Eeva

We are just starting to deal with this problem. Several people in this
thread have mentioned that they use a naming convention to help control
their lists. Could those of you who do this please detail your
convention for this list? I would find this very useful.
Thanks,
