Art,
concerning question 2: We at LCCC do a patron load of students registered for the next semester during the 2nd last week of the current semester. For example, last week we did a patron load of students registered for Spring semester. Their expiration date is May. This way any returning students have access to databases, etc. over the holiday break. It won't help those registering late, but it covers most. Hope this helps.

It is finals time for us and I am sure many of you are in the same
situation. I was wondering how you handle the expiration date in patron
records? Do you expire your patron records while school is in session
to help ensure materials are returned or do you expire later to make
sure patrons still access e-resources such as databases, course
reserves, etc?
We set our patron records to expire the Monday of finals week. While
we think this improves our books returns, it is an inconvenience for
students who may need to use databases or course reserves that week.
We're interested in any suggestions you might have for how we can
both:
1. Get the due date set to the beginning of finals weeks so that
reminders go out in time for students to return materials before they
take off for parts unknown
2. Still allow them to access databases and e-reserves
Thanks!
