Daniel--We changed the label for ON Search to Trace. We also use the Missing
status. The basic difference between them on our system as they are used by
our members, is that Trace is considered more of a short term (we looked for
it can't find it right now but we're pretty sure it will turn up-usually
driven by a recent checkin date) status vs. missing which we treat more as a
long term (we're pretty sure its gone) status. Not all of the members use
both but our larger sites do. We do a monthly status report for all of
member libraries and they take those to the shelves to search for the items.
It is up to each member library what they do after they've searched a number
of times for those items. We encourage deletion at some point.
