RE: [IUG] Label printer

Charlotte,

We were having that problem awhile back. From what I can remember it
was caused by one of two things or a combination of the two. First,
there is a clear plastic shield (for lack of a better word) on the front
of the ink ribbon. That had come loose and in some cases was missing.
Second, the print quality setting on the front of the printer was set at
HSD. That will cause the dotty look you described. Ours are usually
set at UTL.

I also seem to remember something in the printer itself had worked
loose, but I can't be sure.

We have used the Okidata Microline 320 Turbo for a number of years for
batch printing of labels. One problem we currently have is that, on a
random basis, the labels do not print well. The barcode nos. are hard to
read, and not a smooth print (very "dotty" looking). Sometimes the call
nos. are unreadable. Has anyone had a similar problem and knows what we
can do to fix it?

I'll second the endorsement of the Okidata Microline 320/321, agreeing
completely with the earlier recommendation. A further recommendation
should you go this route: Be sure to install the drivers that come with
it (go to the Okidata web site if you have to)--do NOT let Windows
assign its generic printer driver. In our environment, the generic
driver has caused occasional problems with Millennium.

Our library is planning to buy a new label printer. Did anybody have any
experience with Okidata Microline 321 Turbo?
