re: [IUG] Vendor Codes - very basic question

Hi David,

You won't have to keep track of vendor codes as you can search for
your vendors by name, code, keyword or vendor record#. I don't use
keyword because that has been a troubled index for us across modules. I
have only used the vendor record# index maybe twice in 2 years.

You can use up to 5 characters to create the code. We don't have a
hard and fast rule but we make it easily recognizable so it's easier to
deal with at the invoicing stage. Sometimes we use the first few
letters of the vendor name. Other times we use the first letter of each
word in the vendor name.

<<Hi Everyone,

We are a very new site - we are not live on acquisitions yet.

In our old Dynix system, Vendor Codes were system generated (numeric).

We are told that we have to input a vendor code. I really don't want to
have to ask staff to keep track of the vendor codes they have used. We
do not use jobbers and thus we have a lot of vendors.

I at first thought that we could use the initials of the vendor followed
by our account number for that vendor. On further thought, though, I
realize that this won't work, because many times when we need to enter a
new vendor, we don't have an invoice in front of us.

How do you assign a unique vendor code?

Thanks for your help and any ideas you can provide.

Cheers

David
