Re: [IUG] VDX, III and NCIP

This is an issue with Minnesota libraries, as well. We use VDX for
statewide interlibrary loan between all kinds of libraries (academic,
public, and special) using various ILS systems (III, Horizon, Dynix,
etc.) My understanding is that III is the only ILS that is not working
towards NCIP implementation. I have seen a demonstration showing how
NCIP would incredibly decrease the amount of manual processing for
interlibrary loan. The library directors in Minnesota have talked about
this issue. They are supposedly working to put some pressure on III. I
don't know where they are in the process. I will try to find out from my
library director. If another Minnesota library director is on this
listserv and knows something, please share!

Hi all,

The Australasian Millennium libraries who also use VDX as their document
delivery system are quite keen to see III implement NCIP appropriately,
so that we can streamline our workflows considerably and reduce
significantly the amount of manual processing.

Although we have formally approached III as a group, we have not had a
direct response. OCLC PICA have told us that III have said they have not
been asked, and so it isn't on their development plans.

I would be interested to hear from any non-Australasian libraries using
Millennium and VDX who would be interested in working with us to try to
persuade III that implementing NCIP fully would be a smart thing to do
to support their contention that they are standards based.

Of course is isn't only the interface to VDX that would use NCIP, so if
any other libraries would like to see this implemented for other
reasons, please also let me know.

Kind regards
