RE: [IUG] Search OPAC by record number?

Harvey,

The URL syntax you have below will work if you cut off the "8" or in
other words the record number cannot have the check digit at the end of
the string. Logically you would think including the check digit would
give you the exact record you are looking for. However, it (Innopac
software) doesn't work that way.

Subject: [IUG] Search OPAC by record number?

Several years ago it was possible to search the Web OPAC by bib record
number, using a search such as "http://<catalogURL>/record=b12345678".
I recall a presentation or two at IUG that demonstrated practical uses
of this technique. We even used it for a while to create hotlinks for
our new materials lists on our Library's home pages, so that patrons
could immediately go to their desired titles and place holds. (Yeah, I
know you can do something like this with Featured Lists, but that eats
up valuable review files--which is why we did it the way I described.)

However, I can't seem to make this technique work any more on the
current Web OPAC, and I can't seem to find any information about this in
the manual or the recent IUG archives. Does anyone know how to
formulate Web OPAC (public catalog, NOT staff side) searches by bib
record number? Or is this a useful feature that III has now withdrawn
from customer usage?
