This is similar to how we do this. We have an In-Processing status and
our tech services is a separate location from any of our branches so
when they check the item "in" meaning drop it into the box the item will
trap a hold and go to in-transit so the patrons can look at their
account online and see where the item is in it's process.

You could also put a different status, such as "In Technical Services"
or
something, in your item record template. Then, when you are ready to
release
the item to circulate, you could check the item in. This has the added
advantage of triggering any holds that may have been placed on the item
or
title while it was in Tech (if you allow patrons to place holds during
that
time).

Use the "Time to Reshelve" feature. This only works for items which
the
status is "-"

C > CIRCULATION parameters

You can set it up to work hours. Ours is set for 48 hours to process.
