Re: [IUG] Very, very basic question

For us, having location codes in the bib records is important.
We're a system of 4 universities and a state library. The Location in the
bib record will tell what library the item is at. Then the item location
tells where in that library that specific item is located.

In our instance, we have over 1,600 location codes and use for
statisical purposes as well.

I'm new to III, having worked with Sirsi Unicorn and DRA classic. I
have a very basic question about the way III is set up. Why does III
have locations in bibliographic records? There are already locations
in
item records. The locations in item records tell you where the
physical
item is. What more do you need that you get from a location in a bib
record? Locations in bib records seem redundant and confusing.
