RE: [IUG] another newbie authority problem

Mary,

That is exactly what I'm doing. However, our system doesn't seem
to have these authority templates, so I'm trying to set them up myself.
It seems that the personal name template I created is adding things to
the subject file. I don't see anything in the template creation
function where I would tell it that this is a name record. Does anyone
know how I do that?

Lloyd,
Are you talking about creating a local authority record in Millennium?
Using Milcat, after you log in and are in Catalog, choose the file menu
from the top menu bar. One of the choices should be "New record". (If
you don't have this choice, you need to add it to your permissions). In
the New record tab is "authority record". Choose authority record. You
will get a box that allows you to select a template.
To add an authority record to the author file, choose author:name. The
trick is that once you choose the name authority template, all the new
authority records you create will go to the author file. If you happen
to be doing both name and subject and chose the subject first, then all
the authority records you created were added to the subject authority
file. I have not found a way to change this back without logging out of
milcat and back in, this time choosing names. If you inadvertently put a
name in the subject, you can easily change the type of authority record.

If you haven't stumbled across that yet, it is in the Edit menu from the
top menu bar. Box number 5 (or fifth from top) has change authority
type. Call up the authority record you want to move from subject to
author, make this menu choice, choose change to author, and it is done.

I hope this is information you were looking for. Sometimes this stuff is
a clear as mud.

You have to specify the load. In the 949 *atab=asub; or *atab=anam;
