RE: [IUG] spam from web forms

We've seen some of that recently, too. We had a big upswing in August.
My process has been to use our weblogs to identify the addresses and
address ranges that the comment spam is originating from, then blocking
those addresses and ranges on the server. You could also talk to your IT
department about blocking such traffic on the campus firewall.

In our case, almost all of it appears to be coming from Russia and
Korea, with a little bit from Argentina, Brazil and other countries.
Almost none of it appears to be coming from inside the United States.

After about a week of whack-a-mole (block one site, another would pop
up), the latest surge went away.

We still get a low volume of comment spam, maybe one item every week or
two, but that's a fairly minor annoyance.

Subject: [IUG] spam from web forms

I know this isn't particular to Innovative libraries, but does anyone
have a problem in getting spam through web forms? We have a "Ask a
Librarian" form on our webpage & receive loads of deceptive spam that
can't be filtered, since they show as an "online comment or question" in
our Inbox (so we have to open them to know they're spam).

I just thought I'd check to see if others have this problem, & if so,
how you're handling this problem.

Thanks,

Amy
