Re: [IUG] auto notices

That's what I was thinking. So basically, the system will pull these out for you; they'll be the ones that get printed.
In addition to email, our system sends notices by phone (TNS). The priority in our system goes in this order; email, phone, print. So, if the patron account contains an email variable field, then they get notified by email (the server dies this wether the email address is in house or hotmail, yahoo, etc). If there is no email field but there is a phone number field, then they get sent via the TNS. If there is neither an email nor a phone number, then these notices go to print. Now, with 2005, which is what we are on now, came notification preference, a fixed field in the patron record. Whatever is in this field is how the notice will get sent, the options are none, print, email, and phone. When we upgraded, this field was none for all of our existing patrons. If none is selected, then notices follow the system priority that I described above. You have the option to move the email or TNS to print if you so desire. You should note that when you have a notice set to auto, the print option prints to file. From there, it was up to us to actually get it sent from the file created to the printer.
I hope the explanation is applicable, the options and the system for auto works the same as running the notices manually, except for the printing to file bit. So I wonder now if you are on an older/newer release that this is not the case?
Curious,

** Low Priority **
More info : The notices that can't be sent by email are headed toward
patrons who don't have email accounts. In our case, these are community
users, since all of our faculty, staff, and students have campus email.
But there are usually at least a few each day that need to be
snail-mailed.
