RE: [IUG] Blank/Bad Code
[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]
Sarah,
I've been doing a lot of fixed-field cleanup work lately, and run into
the "blank code" or "no code" problem a lot, especially with older
records. I run my lists with the following search strings - for
argument's sake, assume these are item records, but it works with other
records too:
Examples:
"no code" errors: item record / imessage = <nothing> (just hit return)
"blank code" errors: item record / imessage HAS <blank space> (hit the
space bar once then return)
"bad code" errors: item records / imessage HAS <whatever the bad code
was> (then hit return)
Another example which works well when the fixed field could have a blank
field on purpose, such as "ctry" in bib records:
Bib records / ctry STARTS WITH <blank>
bib records / ctry STARTS WITH <whatever code I'm looking for>
You can run these search strings together with an "OR" at the beginning
of your next search string, but depending on what you're looking for,
you probably wouldn't or you might fill up the review file you're using
before it's finished running the search.
Good luck!

Subject: [IUG] Blank/Bad Code
When I run Millennium Statistics reports, I come up with a hefty amount
of Bad Code in several different fields. Is there a good way to find
these? I have tried running a list (in Create Lists) on everything that
is not equal to valid values but it isn't pulling up as many records as
it should, given what I'm seeing in Statistics and Web Management
Reports. I know whatever it is won't be easy, but I'm willing to do some
convoluted list making to get the database cleaner. (Primarily, I'm
interested in pulling records that have invalid fixed-field entries.)
Thanks,
Sarah Smith
