RE: [IUG] Key tag patron cards

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]
Our library uses a card/keytag combination, both with the same barcode. Our
patrons seem to like it a lot. They can keep one tag on their keys and
another in their wallet. We have no reason to think that there is any
greater instance of fraud with this setup. And we'd like to think that it's
a little bit of pr for us that the patron might see our tag every time they
use their keys.

Of course we can run into a little trouble when patrons lose one or another.
There are occasional instances of confusion when the patron gets a new set
but doesn't get rid of the old card or tag that's left over. But you can
have similar confusion when people think they lost their card, get a new
one, then find the old one, etc.

Altogether we are happy with the arrangement.

Subject: [IUG] Key tag patron cards

We are considering offering key tag cards and have a few questions for any
libraries that are already offering them.

Do you offer your patrons both the regular card and they key tag?

If so, have you had any problems with a non-card holder using some else's
card or tag?

Our circ staff is very sensitive to confidentiality issues and is therefore
concerned about handing out essentially two cards (albeit the same number
and same record) to one patron.
