Reference Librarian for the Social Sciences - Vassar College,  
Poughkeepsie, NY

Responsibilities:
Vassar College seeks a dynamic, knowledgeable and service-oriented  
Reference Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Reference and  
Interlibrary Loan this position provides in-depth reference services  
to support disciplines across the liberal arts curriculum in  
collaboration with members of the reference team and through  
participation in library-wide projects.  In addition, this position  
will serve as liaison to selected departments/programs in the social  
sciences by participating in collection development, promoting  
library services to students and faculty, and providing library and  
course integrated instruction. Liaison departmental assignments will  
be determined in part by the strengths of the successful candidate.   
Reference duties include night and weekend hours.

Qualifications:
Required: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program; strong  
academic background in History or another of the social sciences;  
knowledge of current reference practices and information resources;  
interest and proficiency in utilizing new technologies to enhance the  
delivery of reference and instruction services; a demonstrated  
ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team;  
excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and a sense of  
humor. Preferred: one- to two-years experience in academic library  
reference and instruction; proficiency in a second language; a second  
master's degree in a relevant discipline; experience using data  
analysis and presentation software; and familiarity with primary  
sources, datasets and/or government documents. Salary: commensurate  
with qualifications and experience.
