I'd like to hear from any libraries, especially academics, that have
discontinued offering the character-based OPAC. Did you get any reaction
from users? Any advice or warnings? In the past I heard that some
researchers--especially those travelling and accessing the internet through
slow connections--like the telnet catalog for its speed. I'm embarrassed to
admit I don't really understand how to interpret the gateway access
statistics, so I don't know how much it is used, or by whom. So I'd
appreciate help on that too.
Part of the impetus is from our IT department that wants us to discontinue
all telnet access to the server. And I'd like to stop feeling bad about not
doing much to improve it!
Many thanks,
Bonnie
