We haven't seen a difference, but, we have learned the hard way not
to use a high numeric value (ie. 10) for unscoped searches. Unscoped
searches should be done as:
http://catalog.cantonpl.org/search~S0 or
http://catalog.cantonpl.org/search~/
[this really becomes an issue if you add another scope later, as
it'll default to the next numeric value (in this case 10)]
With that said, we've stuck to the first method using the ~.

In essence, the difference in syntax is the use of "search~S10" in example
one, vs "searchscope=10".
