[IUG] Card expirations and SelfChecks

Has anyone found a way to prevent checkouts on the 3M SelfCheck units if the patron's card will expire before the time period set for checkout?  In other words, if a patron checks out an item with a 3-week due date, and the patron card will expire in two weeks, the SelfCheck unit allows the checkout with a modified due date of two weeks instead of three.  Our patrons are either throwing away their receipts or not bothering to check the due dates, and staff are waiving fines for the patrons who complain they had no warning (!) that the items were due back earlier than three weeks.  I've been asked to find a way to "fix" the SelfChecks or the Millennium system so that patrons at the SelfCheck will be blocked or receive a message to go to the circulation desk due to a problem.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
