We have been tracking all of our scope usage for about a month-and-a-half
and have found that roughly 85% of all searches are 'unscoped' or use the
default of 'entire collection'.

In comparing the 'tab' usage which highlights specific scopes at the top of
the page, with the 'scope' usage including the pull-down, our data seems to
show that people actually use the 'pull-down' more than the 'tabs' (only 7%
actually click on one of the tabs).

Best,

adam

Subject: Re: [IUG] Scoping summary

we are testing a new way of doing scopes - sort of a google-ish
approach with them listed across the page. You can see this at
roger.ucsd.edu:2082 We don't add/delete scopes all that often to
making the file changes a burden.

I think our scopes are underutilized, and by making them more
obvious, we hope to make it easier to search for different formats/
types of materials.
