When the staff check for CD, do they indicate someway that the CD is
present or not when book is checked out? Since there is no barcode,
could a student easily return a book and say there was no CD in this
book when I checked it out. I am interested in this process.

Jean,
   We stopped barcoding CDs packaged with books because of the problem
you mentioned, as well as the problem of circ staff not checking the CD
back in when checking in the book, or forgetting to withdraw the CD when
withdrawing the book.  We decided that we could fulfill the same
purpose--getting staff to check for the CD on check-out and check-in--by
putting a lurid green sticker that says "Check for CD" next to the
book's barcode and no longer bothering to barcode the CDs themselves.

We are having problems with books that come with a CD. We presently give
the book and the CD each a different bar code. When the item is returned
and there are two bib holds each item is trapped for each patron. How do
other libraries handle books with accompanying material? We have the CD
suppressed but this still traps the hold.
