I believe this has been in the enhancement election que in the past.

The status are not linking to the defined statuses of the main system. Any status field change is not visible outside the Pending or Returns work screens.

My process is to receive it, without sending the notice. The staff at the other branches call the patron when the item arrives at the proper location.
I have also heard that some libraries create addition messages for the notify utility with text stating the item will be available soon.
