Emma,
Sent on behalf of our Circulation Manager, Lynda Dickson -
We found we had the same problem when things "disappeared" from the
Holdshelf. What we found works best for us and keeps the queue in order
is to check the item out on one of the departmental cards we have and
then put the item on Claims Returned status. Not only does this not
move the item on to the next customer, it puts the item into the formal
search process for us to look more indepth for it.
Hope this helps.

Dear All
We sometimes have the situation where books that are supposed to be on
the holdshelf have been returned to the main shelves or have gone AWOL.
We want to be able to mark these in some way so that staff can advise
customers and to stop them moving onto the next patron in the hold
queue.
We have discovered that if we mark a book that is supposed to be on the
holdshelf as status missing, the clear holdshelf programme still moves
it onto the next patron at the allotted time. We have tried using Lost
status but this does the same thing.
Can anyone advise as to how they get round this problem?
many thanks
