RE: [IUG] Wireless Connectivity and the Millennium Client
[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]
Here's an interesting twist, and while setting up a tablet PC this
afternoon I began to think about some other issues.
1. My public wireless network is assigning a 192. IP so the III server
is not recognized. How do you edit the client to connect from an
external IP it's something like iiirunner.exe "my.iii.server" but I
can't remember and can't find the manual reference
2. If you edit the allow network access table do you allow the IP of the
wireless router or the workstation?
3. I wonder if the wireless routers would be considered outside the
firewall?
Thoughts?

We occasionally use wireless for library tasks. (usually bindery) Here
is what I have found:
1. Your wired network needs to be solid in reliability.
2. You need to verify the coverage of signal in your facility. The
Millennium client will not function well with a weak signal. You need
good to excellent signal strength.
3. At least in our library, you need patience. Because of the way that
802.11 signals propagate, you can find that areas that should have good
signal do not always have good signal.
Anytime that our wireless network is cooperative, I make it a point to
use it, as I can work more efficiently by taking the system to the
stacks with me.

Good Morning,
We are planning to provide wireless access to students throughout the
library and would also appreciate feedback from the group regarding
their experiences with using Millennium in a wireless environment.
Thank you,

Hello:
Users and staff are able to access our WebOPAC without problems via the
campus wireless network. However, when library staff try to open the
Millennium Envrionment client through a wireless connection, they get
the
"TargetException" error statement. Additional ports were opened through
the
University firewall and I uninstalled and re-installed the Millennium
client
on the Gateway 460 notebook. It still will not work. The Millennium
client on
the notebooks WILL open and connect through a wired connection with no
problems whatsoever. Also we are not on AirPAC.
Does anyone have suggestions or leads as to how this situation can be
solved?
Please share your knowledge and/or experience. It will be greatly
appreciated.
