Several comments:

1. Yes, Thawte is fine. I used them for a year or two on our Innopac. They are generally cheaper than Verisign. You might also check out Geotrust http://www.geotrust.com/ That's who I'm using now. Our campus got a slick discount deal with them. Also, Geotrust has a cool "smart icon" that you can present to your users that allows them to verify your certificate. You can see mine here: http://kentlink.kent.edu/screens/ssl.html Other providers likely offer the same kind of thing.

2. I've never noticed any problems with the certificates and any different versions of III. We've had different certificates in place across 2002, Silver, ...2005, and now 2006LE and haven't had any problems. Just follow III's instructions on how to manipulate the webpac.csr file and the webpac.crt file.

3. For SSL and/or for eCommerce, you don't need any other fancy products from the certificate authority. Just get a certificate. Everything else you get from III.

Yes, we're using Thawte certificates, one for our iii server, and one
for our web server.

Hi,

Yes, we are interested in this question as well. Has anyone gone with
Thawte for their certificates? They seem to be considerably less
expensive.

Subject: [IUG] VeriSign and e-commerce

We are moving towards E-Commerce implementation and would like to get
some feedback on the implementation process:

1) If you are using VeriSign, did you have to make any changes or
adjustments when you upgrade to Release 2005? I understand that
certificate generated from servers running Silver Release often show an
incorrect expiration date.

2) Verisign has various products to facilitate E-commerce transaction. I
am curious what products libraries have purchased. Here is a link to
Verisign's products and services: *http://tinyurl.com/7l5t8*
