Millennium Administrator

As the nation's fifth largest public library system with a network of 60
neighborhood libraries, Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) is committed to
providing the borough's 2.6 million people quality services and a vibrant
learning environment.

Brooklyn Public Library is seeking a Millennium Administrator to work in its
Enterprise Applications Group, one of the three groups within the Office of
Library Technology. Under the supervision of the Manager of Enterprise
Applications, the Millennium Administrator has overall responsibility for
BPL's Millennium installation and related systems. The Millennium
Administrator cooperates closely with the Director of Information Technology
and Manager of Millennium Procedures and Training in order to carry out
her/his responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

* Ensure BPL's Millennium installation and related applications adhere
to a high standard of quality and professionalism and reflect best practices
* Daily operation of Millennium and related applications and hardware;
backups of Millennium servers; programming, maintaining, and supporting
Millennium servers; daily duties such as bursar uploads, etc.
* Primary contact with vendors of Millennium and related applications
and hardware
* Establish close working relationships with BPL Public Services, in
particular the Office of Collection Development and the Circulation
Management Team, in order to understand and support their needs,
requirements, and suggestions
* Establish close working relationship with the Director of IT and
Manager of Network Operations/Applications in order to understand and adhere
to BPL networking and system requirements and to communicate Millennium
support needs to them
* Collaborate with the Manager of Millennium Procedures and Training
in order to implement BPL procedures, to create and deliver reports, and to
ensure success of Millennium upgrades and maintenance procedures,
enhancements, etc.
* Maintains parallel test and production servers
* Engages in periodic analysis of quality of the database; initiates
and leads global update and database cleansing projects
* Manage projects for upgrades, enhancements, improvements, etc.
* Chair ad hoc and standing committees as needed
* Maintains loan rules, locations, etc. Performs
suppressions/unsuppressions, etc. Maintains rules for deletions, etc.
Maintains default templates, etc. Maintains security.
* Develops, writes, and ensures implementation of procedures for
Millennium administration
* Research and evaluate new technologies in relationship with
Millennium and related duties
* Sit on BPL committees as needed
* Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

* 3+ years successful senior experience as Millennium administrator at
a large public library with multiple locations and large holds volume
* 1+ years Unix system administrator experience
* Strong customer focus and usability skills; ability to collaborate
with non-technical as well as technical library staff
* Strong project management skills
