- Subject: [IUG] Star DP8340 printers - ribbons shredding
just curious...has anyone else had a problem with ribbons shredding in Star DP8340 receipt printers?
We have three that we've been using for 5 years, and we've had one recurring problem: if the ribbons aren't changed frequently, they shred in such a way that the printer must be sent to an authorized service center to be repaired. I thought I had solved this problem by asking circ staff to change the ribbons every 8 weeks without fail (the ribbons are cheap compared to the cost and inconvenience of sending the printer out) but we've now had the situation happen with a two-week old ribbon.
These are really sturdy little printers and it seems premature to replace any of them - but if this problem isn't preventable, I'm wondering if the cost of service should just be applied to another kind of printer that can handle what is typically a very minor problem.
thanks!
