You need to discuss the reasons for call no from bib preference with someone from III. We have call numbers in item records. In doing call number searches from OPAC you may not like display (Although patrons don't do that much). Be sure III explains pros and cons of two placements before you decide.

For whatever it is worth, I would like to say that our Library is part of an eight member multi-type library consortium and, when we joined the group (which uses Innovative's Millennium Silver), we were instructed to place the locally-assigned classification # in the item, not bib, record which I think makes perfect sense especially in the consortial environment. All of our call #'s go into an 092 field (for Dewey class #'s) and non-classification numbers such as accession numbers for AV go into an 098 which seems to suit our needs quite well.
