Honest to goodness gang - it seems like printer woes just never stop.
Our recent skirmish is that the "system printer" that we had in our
Children's Department finally bit the dust. It was an aging HP laser,
and when we migrated to III it installed on III just fine, so we kept
using it as a reliable workhorse. The printer was located on the staff
desk, and whenever staff or users (children) at the public PCs printed,
it all went to the same network printer. A very cost effective solution
for a relatively low volume area.
So, the old HP bites the dust, and the City MIS guys (that btw do a
great job supporting our hardware) install the replacement printer using
the manufacturer/model that they are now using all around the City. The
problem is it is a Dell laser printer. We now come to learn that III
only supports HP 4000 or 4050 as system network printers (or Okidata as
serial). Nobody in MIS asked us if this was going to be a problem, but
they sure as heck do not want to install other than their current
favorite printer.
My question for you'all is: Have you had success getting network
printers other than HP manufacturer to install and run from Millenium as
a "standard printer". Specifically have you had success with Dell 3100cn
?
We appreciate any advice (other than the obvious of telling City MIS to
take the $%^& thing away).
Thanks, and Happy Holidays
Paul
