Elvio--
We use Envisionware's PC Reservation, which has a SIP connection to
the III database for authentication, and we are very happy with it.
We also use online patron registration, but that primarily works for
remote users who want database access -- they probably never set foot into
the library, but we don't really know because we don't keep our PC Res logs.
They would have to type in their library card number at the reservation
station keyboard (regular users can just scan their library card), but it
certainly would work.
One note: the online patron registration form does not have any
required fields. You would have to add your own JavaScript to make that
happen.
If you want to send me any questions off-list, feel free.

Subject: patron verification and third party softwate

Hi folks

We are interested in experiences people have had in setting up third party
software that allows the library users access to library resources such
printing or booking of PCs (eg Pharos, Cybrarian etc).

These programs require patron authentication before the resource can be used
- the patron data is already in the III patron file so it makes sense to
use this data for user the authentication part.

III sell an API to make an interface between the patron file and these
programs and recently there has been discussion about using SIP. III also
make a patron self registration module so it would seem that a whole package
could be set up to make the whole exercise of registration and access to
library resources as painless as possible.

In theory of course......but then we have to consider the real world.

Any words of wisdom, details of trials and tribulations would be most
helpful

Regards
