We kept track of the costs when we performed one of our inventories.
Please email me of the list if you'd like me to send you the materials I
have (I'm also listed in the IUG Clearinghouse with the "Inventory"
keyword).

This is thank Donna Bacon for posting a reply to my query regarding
whether
anyone on the list has any "cost study" relative to conducting an
inventory
and costed out by optional approaches that might be taken. I'd
certainly
appreciate any additional feedback (or an actual cost study) from anyone
on
the list.

Thanks,

Subject: Inventory Costs

Our library has done inventory with our portable barcode readers many
times
over in the past several years. We have always done it as we had time.
However, we are considering doing a large inventory branch by branch
with
teams of staff after hours. We are trying to determine how much this
will
really cost us in staff time. How long does it take to scan in an item
and
upload the file to Innovative, process it, and then resolve the error
reports?

I was wondering if any library has ever done a cost analysis on this
process? What does it cost per item to do an inventory? Obviously
there
are variables to consider (especially how much we pay the staff to do
this).
Has anyone ever done a large inventory at once as I am suggesting or do
you
usually do it has you have the time?

Any information from anyone would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Donna Bacon
